Ernest Leo Gordon papers, 1943-1945.

The collection consists of letters from Ernest Leo Gordon to his mother, Mrs. E.L. Gordon of Hull, Georgia from 1943-1945. The letters describe Gordon's basic training at Fort McPherson, Georgia; Camp Bowie, Texas; and his radio training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In 1945, Gordon wrote from England, France, Belgium, Germany, and Czechoslovakia mainly about family, friends, and items he requests. After the censorship ban was lifted, Gordon's letters mention the battles he participated in (the Normandy invasion, the capture of Orleans, and the Rhine River) and his duties during the post war months.
